Living with Anxiety and Depression
According to the Anxiety and Depression Association of America, one of the most common mental illnesses in the United States is anxiety disorder. They impact around 40 million adults who are 18 and over each year which amounts to 18.1% of the population.
Despite being an incredibly manageable illness, there are barely any that feel comfortable enough to seek therapeutic services. The root cause of an anxiety disorder varies from person to person and can include factors like personality, genetics, or recent life-turning events.
Anxiety disorders include generalized anxiety disorder, panic disorder, social anxiety disorder, phobias specific to objects or situations. It also includes obsessive-compulsive disorder, post-traumatic disorder, major depressive disorder, and persistent disorder. Some of us many not have received a formal diagnosis but experience anxiety much later in life or after certain events have passed. While this is completely normal, seeking professional help when you are ready and willing to work on yourself is important for personal growth.
Seeking counseling for anxiety and depressive disorders in NY
Unfortunately, living with a mental illness and seeking therapy for it are still burdened with an unnecessary amount of stigma. Often, not only do we fail to acknowledge them in time, but they can start to impact us in our daily lives, disrupting mental peace and rendering us unable to function. It can be difficult to call in sick at a workplace or skip multiple days in school and not be able to have a “plausible” excuse for it.
However, there are ways you can manage everyday stress, anxiety, depression and various other emotions in your everyday routine. Seeking therapy with a professional can seem daunting, which is why I offer mental health counseling over the phone, via video conference, email and online chat as well along with in-person counseling.
I hope to provide a more accessible means to counseling so you can have the safe space to express yourself. I offer a personalized approach for all my clients to help them work towards their individual goals and needs. We work together to deal with issues like trauma, depression, ADHD, grief counseling, parenting support and more.
